The Westfield FFA Cup Final 2016 between Sydney FC and Melbourne City FC will be played at AAMI Park in Melbourne on Wednesday 30 November 2016.
The details of the Westfield FFA Cup Final 2016 were announced after Melbourne City FC defeated Melbourne Victory 2-0 in the second Semi Final tonight.
In determining the venue for the third Westfield FFA Cup Final, FFA CEO David Gallop said the decision was based on the objective of providing the best spectacle for the Westfield FFA Cup while fitting it in with the Hyundai A-League schedule to give teams the best possible chance to prepare for the match and as many fans as possible the opportunity to attend.
“FFA would like to congratulate Sydney FC and Melbourne City for claiming a place in the Westfield FFA Cup Final 2016. This year’s competition has again seen a special and unique opportunity to bring together the different parts of the football ecosystem with some outstanding football played,” said Gallop.
“AAMI Park was selected to host the Westfield FFA Cup Final 2016 to maximise attendance and broadcast numbers while ensuring the Cup Final is played in a venue that embodies the unique spirit of the competition.
“AAMI Park provides fantastic facilities, which allows fans to create an atmosphere that will ensure another chapter of this great national knockout competition is written.
“By playing the Final on November 30, there will be no disruptions to the Hyundai A-League schedule and it also follows the unique Westfield FFA Cup tradition of matches being played midweek. This also gives the Final some clean air so it can receive the promotion and publicity it deserves.”
Tickets for the Westfield FFA Cup Final 2016 will go on sale to Melbourne City FC and Sydney FC members from 12pm this Friday 28 October 2016, while the Football Family pre sale will commence from 12pm Wednesday 2 November. Both Club members and Football Family members will receive 10% off tickets during their pre-sale. General public ticket sales will commence at 9am on Thursday 3 November.
