Arnie hails ‘dominant’ Sydney FC performance

Sydney FC boss Graham Arnold admits his side have plenty of improvement left in them but was pleased with the Sky Blues’ performance in their Westfield FFA Cup win over Melbourne City.

Goals in either half to Jordy Buijs and Alex Brosque handed Sydney a comfortable 2-0 victory over a disappointing Melbourne City outfit in the quarter finals on Wednesday night.

MORE TO COME FROM SYDNEY

“It was the first time we’ve had to play against an A-League opposition and I thought we were fantastic tonight,” Arnold told Fox Sports.

“I do also know we’ve got a lot of improvement left in us. Once Adrian (Mierzejewski) settles in more and we play together more with [Luke] Wilkshire then I think we’ll be a very good team.”

POLISH RECRUIT SHINES FOR SKY BLUES

Arguably Sydney FC’s best on the night, Polish international winger Adrian Mierzejewski showed he’s going to be more than a handy pick-up with a classy performance on his starting debut.

“That’s about 40 per cent of what I’ve seen. He’s just a wonderful player. He works extremely hard defensively as well,” Arnold said.

“But even he admits he’s not fit yet. He’s nowhere near his best.”

POTENTIAL SEMI FINAL OPPONENT

Asked whether he would enjoy a Sydney Derby against the Wanderers in the semi finals, Arnold said he wasn’t concerned who his side would come up against.

“We don’t care. We’re enjoying the pre-season. We take the FFA Cup very seriously,” Arnold said.

“So whoever we draw, we will be ready. We’ll be ready to put in a better performance than tonight.”
