FFA Cup drama in South Australia

MetroStars SC are just one win away from a return to the Westfield FFA Round of 32 after a cracking semi-final win over Croydon Kings on Wednesday night.

A pulsating Cup tie was decided in the last 18 minutes as goals to Liam Wooding and former Hyundai A-League star Travis Dodd handed MetroStars a 3-1 win.

They now move in to the South Australian decider against Adelaide Comets on June 25 for a spot in next month’s draw for the Round of 32.

It was end-to-end football in the early stages with MetroStars taking a 15th minute lead through the excellent Stefan Simic.

But before fans had stopped celebrating the opener, Croydon had drawn level barely a minute later with Shaun McGreevy finishing off a neat move.

Wooding then replaced Simic early in the second half and it proved a masterstroke for MetroStars.

With the tie on a knife-edge, Wooding made the most of an opportunity for the MetroStars to put them back in front on 72 minutes.

Then with just seven minutes left, Dodd rounded out the scoring to book his side's spot in the SA decider, which means they are potentially just 90 minutes away from the last 32.

If MetroStars can get the job done on June 25, it will be the second straight year they’ve made the Round of 32, where they famously beat NSW Champions Blacktown City in 2015.
