Moreton Bay's magical extra-time extravaganza!

The bench did the job for Moreton Bay United in the Westfield FFA Cup on Wednesday night as the Queensland side registered a spectacular win with a place in the Round of 16 their reward.

All three substitutes scored in the 4-2 extra-time win over Broadmeadow Magic in their round-of-32 tie at Wolter Park.

Youngsters Lachlan Strogusz and Declan Smith and stalwart Paul Mikula found the net to the delight of the 1200-strong home crowd.

“Both [Lachlan and Declan] are young boys, they turn 18 or 19 this year,” coach Adam Piddick told Fox Sports after the game.

“We've got a pretty young group so hopefully we can keep these boys together and progress even further.”

TACTICAL TWEAKS DO THE TRICK

Former Hyundai A-League striker James Virgili was Broadmeadow's most obvious threat, despite missing a penalty early in the contest.

“Even though we had the ball the majority of the time, we weren't effective,” said Piddick.

“We wanted to be effective - keep going through the process, going through the rotations, but just do it quicker.

“We pinned them back which stopped them breaking and getting James on the ball,” he said.

LOOKING AHEAD WITH CONFIDENCE

Having secured their place in the last 16, Piddick has his sights set even higher.

“We want to go as far as we can,” he declared.

“Even if we get an A-League club, it's still our belief that we can beat anyone - it's 11 v 11.

“A good high-profile Victorian team at home would be fantastic.”
