NSW Round 4 Preliminary Round Preview

The thrills and spills of Cup football will be on show again around New South Wales this week for Round 4 of the Football NSW Preliminary Rounds.

Whilst many teams have been at it already during the first three rounds to qualify for Round 4, into the draw now go the names of the PS4 NPL NSW Men’s 1 and 2 sides, making for some mouth-watering David and Goliath battles.

A host of matches will be played tonight (April 1), with Mens State League One side, Inter Lions, hoping to avoid an April Fool’s joke when they travel to Webbs Avenue to meet Auburn FC at 7pm.

Two sides from the local Bankstown District Amateur Football Association welcome teams from out of town, with The Crest hosting Bankstown Sports Strikers and Gosford City FC, whilst Yagoona Lions meet Oatley RSL at O’Neill Park No.1.

Norman Tome’s Dulwich Hill are aiming to step back in to the PS4 NPL NSW Men’s 2 league next year, and they face a real test of character against the Mounties Wanderers at Cook Park on Wednesday night.

Blacktown Spartans should make easy work of North Sydney United at Blacktown Football Park, whilst neighbours Blacktown City should do likewise against the plucky Ararat FC at Lily’s Football Stadium.

Rockdale City Suns have had an inconspicuous start to their season campaign with two losses after two rounds, and they will be wanting to avoid a Cup upset when they host Tony Basha’s Rydalmere Lions from Mens State League One.

Fraser Park will take on PS4 NPL NSW Men’s 1 high flyers, Bonnyrigg White Eagles at Bonnyrigg, whilst Garside Park will host the match-up between Granville Rage and Bankstown Berries.

The fourth round will host two all PS4 NPL NSW Men’s 1 battles, the first taking place at Marconi Stadium, where Marconi hope to ignore their league form when they meet the Sutherland Sharks.

The other clash is between heavyweights Sydney United and APIA Leichhardt Tigers at Sydney United Sports Centre, two powerhouses who have spent plenty during the off season, with both eager to progress far in this season’s Cup.

Southern Districts SFA and Waverley Old Boys drew the short straws as they meet PS4 NPL NSW Men’s 1 sides, Parramatta FC and Sydney Olympic FC respectively, the games to be played at Melita Stadium and Peter Moore Reserve.

Nahuel Arrarte’s South Coast Wolves won’t find it easy at Popondetta Park where they meet a resurgent Mount Druitt Town Rangers in front of a boisterous home crowd, no doubt.

Lilli Pilli will find it tough hosting Spirt FC at Seymour Shaw, whilst Nepean should easily account for Hurlstone Park Wanderers at Cook Park.

Dean Bertenshaw will take his Hawkesbury City team to St George Stadium to meet PS4 NPL NSW Men’s 2 side, St George, whilst 5Sports at Caringbah plays host to a battle between Hurstville City Minotaurs and Leppington Lions.

Sydney CBD tackles Woonona FC on the 1st of April at Valentine Sports Park.
