South Armidale: penalty kings and new Cup stars

They are the shootout kings of this year’s Westfield FFA Cup preliminary rounds and South Armidale will be hoping to ride that wave all the way through to competition’s round of 32.

Proving themselves as the professors of the penalty shootout, the Scorpions have survived three shootouts to the last eight in Northern NSW.

Their players have shown great character to hold their nerve from the spot, while goal-keeper Richard Morris has been immense for Joe Campbell’s giant-killing side.

What a story if they can make it all the way through to the big stage.

South Armidale need just two more wins to make that a reality but have a tough match-up in the next round following the quarter-final draw in Northern NSW on Tuesday.

The Scorpions will face one of last season’s NNSW FFA Cup representatives Broadmeadow Magic at Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility on June 20.

Other matches in the region will see Jesmond FC take on West Wallsend, Valetine do battle with Adamstown Rosebud and Coffs City United entertain Edgeworth FC.

The four winners will then be drawn out of a hat for the semi-finals, with the two winners to automatically qualify to represent NNSW in the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32.
