South Hobart closing in on three-peat

South Hobart FC are one step closer to a third consecutive appearance in the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 after coming from behind to win a thrilling cup Semi Final over rivals Olympia.

South Hobart will meet Devonport Strikers who smashed Somerset Sharks 10-0 in the other Lakoseljac Cup Semi Final.

South Hobart were trailing 2-1 at half time and looked on the back foot before turning it on to register a stirring 3-2 come from behind victory in a cup classic. Once again it was Alex Leszczynski who was the hero for South Hobart, the powerful striker scoring a brace in another best afield display in front of a massive Darcy St crowd.

The win booked their spot in the final of the tournament they have won in the past two seasons and has them just one more win away from making it three trips to the prestigious Westfield FFA Cup.

The national tournament is viewed by many as the biggest prize on offer in Tasmanian Football and South Hobart will want to maintain their record as the only Tasmanian team to have represented the state in it. South Hobart Coach Ken Morton has made no secret of his affinity for the tournament and the priority that he places upon it.

To get there they will have to get past a Devonport Strikers side that defeated them 1-0 when they met three weeks ago and brushed aside lower league Somerset Sharks 10-0 in the other Semi Final on Saturday. It will mean another clash against former South Hobart star striker Brayden Mann and former assistant coach Peter Saville who now leads the Strikers.

The Cup victory was the perfect start to a massive couple of weeks for South Hobart who now must turn their attention to a top of the table clash with Hobart JEEP Zebras in the NPL TAS on Sunday. The Zebras are undefeated in the league this season, though South did manage to defeat them 2-0 when the sides met in the quarter final of the Lakoseljac Cup. The winner this time around will emerge as the title favourites.

The Lakoseljac Cup Final will be played on the Queen's birthday long weekend with a Round of 32 spot awaiting the winner.
