Get the lowdown on which stage each of the States/Territories are at as the prized 21 Member Federation spots in this year’s Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 edges closer to being finalised.

Queensland

What stage are they at?

Things are heating up in the race to secure one of the Sunshine State’s four Round of 32 spots. The makeup of two Round 7 Cup ties are already determined, while in the Brisbane Zone two of the Round 6 matches have been completed with the other two being played on 30/31 May.

Who’s still in?

Redlands United (PS4 NPL), Olympic FC (PS4 NPL), Peninsula Power (Brisbane Premier League), Logan Lightning (Brisbane Premier League), Grange Thistle (Brisbane Premier League), Moreton Bay United (PS4 NPL), Gold Coast City (PS4 NPL), Caloundra FC (Sunshine Coast McDonald’s Premier League), FNQ Heat (PS4 NPL), Mackay Magpies (Mackay & Regional Football Zone Division 1)

Upcoming fixtures

Grange Thistle, who currently languish at the bottom of their league table but have saved their best for the Westfield FFA Cup, will host the winner of the match between fellow Flight Centre Premier League sides Peninsula Power and Logan Lightning.

Moreton Bay United, the other Brisbane Zone winner already through to a Round of 32 decider after eliminating Albany Creek and Holland Park Hawks, awaits the victor of Redlands United and Olympic FC in what will be an all PS4 NPL Round 7 match up.

In the other regions, Gold Coast City (formerly Palm Beach SC) will be aiming to make it a hat-trick of appearances in the Final Rounds when they host Caloundra FC, while up north FNQ Heat are gunning to reach the Round of 32 for the fourth straight year when they take on Mackay Magpies. Both of these matches are scheduled for 10 June.

Northern NSW

What stage are they at?

We are up to Round 6 time in Northern NSW with the draw for the penultimate Preliminary Round of matches conducted earlier today.

Who’s still in?

Byron Bay Rams (Football Far North Coast Premier Division), Maitland FC (PS4 NPL), Coffs City United (North Coast Football Premier League), Cardiff City (Z F Premier League), Lambton Jaffas (PS4 NPL), Edgeworth FC (PS4 NPL), Valentine FC (PS4 NPL), Broadmeadow Magic (PS4 NPL)

Can one or both North Zone clubs (Byron Bay Rams and Coffs City United) win their way through to a Round of 32 decider? Byron Bay face a tough task against Maitland FC while Coffs City come up against Cardiff City in a match that could go either way.

Arguably the pick of the Round 6 matches in Lambton Jaffas against Edgeworth FC, the two clubs who were the Northern NSW Round of 32 representatives last year.

New South Wales

What stage are they at?

Round 6 is done and dusted – bring on Round 7 and the showdowns to determine who will join Sydney United 58 FC (who have already qualified for the Round of 32 as the PS4 NPL Champions of Australia) in the Final Rounds.

Who’s still in?

Bulli FC, Blacktown City (PS4 NPL), Rockdale City Suns (PS4 NPL), Hakoah Sydney City East (PS4 NPL), Bankstown Berries (PS4 NPL 2), Sydney Olympic (PS4 NPL), APIA Leichhardt (PS4 NPL), SD Raiders (PS4 NPL 3), Hills Brumbies (PS4 NPL 2), Kemblawarra Fury (Illawarra Premier League)

There will be at least one non PS4 NPL NSW club making it into the Final Rounds after Hills Brumbies and Kemblawarra Fury both won through to a Round of 32 decider against each other.

Blacktown City, Rockdale City Suns, Sydney Olympic and Hakoah Sydney City East all remain in contention to have another crack on the national stage, while the other remaining PS4 NPL club, APIA Leichhardt will be aiming for a maiden appearance in the Round of 32.

Bulli FC, Bankstown Berries and SD Raiders have all been impressive in their Cup runs to date and will be dreaming of causing a significant ‘Cupset’ as they prepare to come up against PS4 NPL opposition.

ACT

What stage are they at?

It’s entering Round 5 in the national capital. Capital Football’s solitary Round of 32 entrant will be known by 17 June.

Who’s still in?

Canberra FC (PS4 NPL), Tigers FC (PS4 NPL), Canberra Olympic (PS4 NPL), Woden Weston (PS4 NPL), Gungahlin United (PS4 NPL), Monaro Panthers (PS4 NPL), Tuggeranong United (PS4 NPL), Riverina Rhinos (PS4 NPL)

No clubs from outside PS4 NPL Capital Football have managed to survive through to Round 5, leaving eight of the PS4 NPL teams to fight it out, including former Round of 32 entrants Tuggeranong United, Gungahlin United and Canberra Olympic, who went on a stunning Cup run all the way to the semi finals last year.

Victoria

What stage are they at?

It’s a case of done, done all done with Victoria the first State/Territory to have its Round of 32 entrants determined after Football Federation Victoria held its final Preliminary Round matches on May 23 and 24.

Who’s still in?

Football Federation Victoria’s four entrants in this year’s Round of 32 are Bentleigh Greens, Hume City, Heidelberg United and South Melbourne FC, all clubs who have featured in the Westfield FFA Cup Final Rounds before.

Bentleigh Greens have qualified for the Round of 32 for the third time, their best finish being a semi final appearance in the competition’s inaugural year where they were beaten by Perth Glory.

Hume City are also previous semi finalists having reached the last four in 2015 and will be making their third straight appearance in the Round of 32 after they accounted for Moreland City in Round 7.

Heidelberg United qualified after ending the Cup run of Northcote City, while South Melbourne’s Houdini act to beat Dandenong City after being 4-1 down with just over 10 minutes to go has been well publicised and regarded by many as the greatest Westfield FFA Cup match of all time.

Tasmania

What stage are they at?

It all comes down to this with two clubs left vying for Tasmania’s one Round of 32 spot.

Who’s still in?

Olympia Warriors (PS4 NPL), Glenorchy Knights

Can Glenorchy Knights cap off a fairytale Cup run by claiming a fourth straight PS4 NPL Tasmania scalp and represent the Apple Isle on the national stage? The Knights have eliminated Kingborough Lions, last year’s Round of 32 entrant Devonport Strikers, and Launceston City on their way to the big dance.

But standing in their way is an Olympia Warriors outfit that has scored 21 goals and is yet to concede in their three matches so far. It sets up an intriguing finale to Tasmania’s Preliminary Rounds.

South Australia

What stage are they at?

Four PS4 NPL clubs remain in the running for SA’s one Round of 32 spot as Round 6 of their Preliminary Round looms.

Who’s still in?

Two previous Round of 32 entrants (Adelaide City and MetroStars) and two sides attempting to reach the national stage for the first time (Adelaide Blue Eagles and West Torrens Birkalla).

All bar Adelaide City have had to endure either extra time or penalties on their way to this stage of the competition, and it promises to be a thrilling finale as all four clubs will fancy their chances of being the ones to feature in the Final Rounds.

Western Australia

What stage are they at?

After 58 clubs started their 2017 Westfield FFA Cup journey, it has reached crunch time in the west with four clubs left in the running for Football West’s two Round of 32 entrants.

Bayswater City (PS4 NPL), Dianella White Eagles, Western Knights, Sorrento FC (PS4 NPL)

Upcoming fixtures

The two PS4 NPL WA clubs managed to avoid each other when the Round 7 draw was conducted, and both will fancy their chances to progress with Bayswater pitted against Western Knights and Sorrento FC to host Dianella White Eagles. But stranger things have happened and after the Knights and Eagles both toppled PS4 NPL opposition in their last matches, who says they could not do it again.

Northern Territory

What stage are they at?

The number of clubs in the Northern Territory’s Preliminary Rounds continues to gradually be narrowed down. The NT’s Round of 32 entrant is set to be decided by 24 June.
