VIDEO: Darwin plan to attack Sydney FC

Darwin Rovers boss Jimmy Culligan expects the climate in the Top End to be a factor in his side’s David v Goliath Westfield FFA Cup clash against Hyundai A-League champions Sydney FC.

Rovers host the Sky Blues at Darwin Football Stadium in the Round of 32 on Wednesday, August 2 in what - on paper at least – looks like a huge mismatch.

CONDITIONS A FACTOR

“It’s the dry season at the minute so it’s not overly humid but it still gets very hot in Darwin at this time of the year, especially in the middle of the day,” Culligan said.

“…maybe later in the day it’s not such a factor.

“We had a team come up from Alice [Springs] and they said they felt it so it will still be a factor but we play in it all the time so it’s a bit of an advantage.”

Brisbane Strikers overpowered Darwin Rovers 6-0 in the Northern Territory.

PUMPED TO BE BACK IN THE CUP

This is the second season Rovers will play in the Round of 32, having lost at the same stage last year to Brisbane Strikers,” Culligan said.

“It’s great to be back. We went away disappointed last year so we’re looking to redeem ourselves. The occasion got to us, we were very nervous on the day.

“[Against Sydney FC] we have to stick to our usual game plan and just go out and attack them.

“Anything can happen. It’s 11 v 11. Bigger upsets have happened than this. Dreams come true…this is where we want to be so we’re just really looking forward to it now.”
