Westfield FFA Cup Preliminary Round wrap

The 2015 Westfield FFA Cup has got underway with a flurry of goals across the 28 preliminary round matches held over the opening weekend.

A whopping 115 goals were scored in some cracking contests played in Victoria, Queensland and Northern NSW. The Cup is well and truly back!

Keon Park SC won an eight-goal thriller against Healesville SC, emerging 5-3 at the State Football Centre, while there were also eight goals between The Gap and AC Carina, with the hosts winning 6-2.

Rosebud Heart SC edged out Old Ivanhoe Grammarians SC 4-3, while Kings Domain FC had little trouble disposing of Balmoral FC as they cruised to a 5-0 win at Keilor Park Recreation Reserve.

There was an upset in Northern NSW with Lismore Workers FC – who just missed out in a spot in the last 32 last year – losing 2-1 to ex-Socceroo Craig Foster’s old club Goonellabah FC on Sunday.

Lismore Thistles FC had better luck defeating Ballina 3-0, while it took a penalty shoot-out for Tuncurry Forster FC to beat Club Taree Wildcats after the sides were locked at 2-2.

Elsewhere, there was big wins for Pine Hills - who crushed Greenbank 5-1 – and Centenary Stormers who ran out comfortable 4-1 winners over Western Spirit.

In other results, Alstonville were too good for Lennox Head 3-1, Macleay Valley Rangers edged out Port Saints 3-2 while Lara SC were rarely troubled in beating Montrose SC 3-0.

Old Trinity Grammarians SC held off Gisborn SC 2-1, Mitchell Rangers SC knocked off Prahran City FC 2-1 and it was the same score as Cobram Roar triumphed over Glen Waverley SC.

Virginia United were too strong for Logan City Kings 3-1, Westside ran out 3-0 winners over Clairvaux and My Lilydale Old Collegians SC won 2-1 against Baxter SC.

In Queensland, Newmarket beat Toowong 3-0, Park Ridge won 3-1 on the road against Narangba United, Samford Rangers held off Logan Village 2-1 and Redcliffe PCYC were too good for Tarragindi Tigers 3-1.

Jimboomba United disposed of North Brisbane 3-1, it was a 4-0 win for Souths United over Acacia Ridge and Mooroondu ran out 3-0 winners against Ridge Hills United.

Bardon Latrobe produced a good away performance to beat Oxley United 2-1, New Farm United held off Ipswich City 2-1 while Slacks Creek crushed Kangaroo Point Rovers 4-0.

Parkmore SC, Kyneton District SC and Marcellin Old Collegians SC all won through to the next round thanks to a forfeit.
