Westfield FFA Cup wrap: 12 goal thriller in Victoria!

It was another huge weekend in the Westfield FFA Cup with some massive scores and a couple of huge upsets across more than 70 preliminary round matches around the country.

Clubs from Football NSW started their preliminary rounds, while Victorian NPL 1 clubs also joined the competition for the first time this season.

And like the Hyundai A-League, which saw a 5-4 thriller at Allianz Stadium, the Cup had its own version but three goals better and with a claimxing in an 18 shot penalty shootout.

It was an 12-goal thriller as North Sunshine Eagles edged out Sunshine George Cross 4-2 on penalties after scores were locked an astonishing 6-6 after extra time in a Cup classic in Melbourne.

Victorian giants South Melbourne were untroubled in their 5-0 drubbing of Whittlesea United, while last year’s semi-finalists Bentleigh Greens that made an impressive start, cruising to a crushing 9-0 win over Seaford United.

Miron Bleiberg’s Oakleigh Cannons were even better, putting 12 unanswered goals past Corio SC, while St Albans were shock losers, going down on penalties to Caulfield United Cobras after a 1-1 draw.
