Canberra Olympic are into the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 16 after edging Surfers Paradise Apollo 1-0 on a chilly night in the capital.

After both sides tested each other with some half chances early on, it was the home side that took the lead just before the break.

In-form striker Philippe Bernabo-Madrid was put through around the halfway line, he nodded the ball on and powered into the box before finishing coolly to make it 1-0, his 15th goal of the season.

It should’ve been 2-0 after the break with Jeremy Habtemariam’s shot just going wide for Olympic and Bernabo-Madrid again threatening.

Apollo had their chances too with Burcin Yorulmaz missing a great chance as the push for an equaliser intensified.

But the Apollo dream ended at the hands of the team from the capital who march on after a tough clash at Deakin Stadium in front of 1253 fans.
