Glory eye deep Cup run

Perth Glory recruit Andy Keogh says his new club are aiming to create history by winning the inaugural Westfield FFA Cup after downing the Newcastle Jets 2-0 in their round of 32 clash in the Hunter.

The Republic of Ireland international scored goals in each half to hand the Glory a comfortable win over a lackluster Jets outfit in front of a healthy crowd at Magic Park in Newcastle.

"Yeah, why not? There's a trophy to win and it's the first time the league's had this cup so why not be the first team to win it?," Keogh said.

"We've got a good squad now, we've got Youssouf Hersi and Michael Thwaite with the All Stars and Rostyn Griffiths and Ruben Zadkovich to come back.

"We've got good strength and depth and we're really looking to take it game by game and make a mark this year."

Keogh admitted it was a difficult task to play a one-off cup tie away from home but felt his side thoroughly deserved their victory.

"It was a good performance, we've been working hard in the pre-season and we deserved the win tonight," he said.

"It's always tough with the smaller ground but the atmosphere was great and both teams put a  good shift in. We're just happy to come away with the win and go back to Perth going into the next round."

The Glory striker admitted he was pleased with his form in front of goal but suggested he still needed to work on his fitness.

"Yeah its always nice to score, it was a good team effort, they were easy enough chances and credit to the lads they put them on a plate for me," he said.

"Its going well, I still feel I need to get a bit fitter but the whole team has been doing brilliant, but its one step at a time until the season starts."
