148 FNSW clubs to compete in the Cup

The number of Football NSW entrants will increase for the third straight year, up by 18 clubs on last year to an impressive 148 for the 2017 Westfield FFA Cup.

Ranging from Bateau Bay United FC in the Central Coast down to Wagga United FC, this year has smashed last year’s entries number.

The clubs participating have risen over the last couple of years with 105 entering in 2015 and 130 taking part in the prestigious competition in 2016.

In 2017 we will see 101 Grassroots clubs, 47 Football NSW PlayStation 4 National Premier League and State Leagues sides battle it out in an attempt to be one of the five (5) Football NSW sides to join the 2016 PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Final Series Champions, Sydney United 58 FC in the coveted Round of 32.

There is a great spread of Grassroots teams with 12 teams representing the Gladesville-Hornsby Football Association, the most of any Association.

Nine clubs will represent Eastern Suburbs Football Association and Blacktown Districts Soccer Football Association and eight clubs for both the St George Football Association and the newly formed Hills Football.

There will also be four clubs plying their trade from Wagga Wagga with Wagga United FC, Tumet Eagles and Lake Albert SC joining their Football NSW State League side Wagga City Wanderers in the Preliminary Rounds.

Football NSW interim CEO Stefan Kamasz was delighted with the increase in grassroots teams which he confirmed would only better the development and promotion of the sport within the state and country.

“There’s no doubt that the Westfield FFA Cup has grown in stature year upon year.

“It’s great to see the many grassroots clubs from various associations from across NSW throw its support behind taking part in Australia’s most prestigious Cup tournament.

“Here’s hoping we can see more NSW clubs progress to the latter stages of the Westfield FFA Cup," said Kamasz.

The Westfield FFA Cup is back with the 2017 competition kicking off in Queensland tonight.
