5-star Lions roar into FFA Cup Round of 32

Lions FC have roared into the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 with a comprehensive 5-0 win over Pine Rivers at Lions Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Brisbane Premier League outfit had too much firepower for the Capital One side, scoring twice in the first half and adding three more late-on to become the third Queensland side into next month’s draw.

It took just 18 minutes for Lions to take control with Andre Bonotto converting a penalty after Michael Butters was fouled in the box.

Butters was again involved on the half hour for the second goal, providing a superb assist for Shoheel Khan to double the home side’s lead.

Lions continued to apply the pressure after the break but it took until the last 11 minutes for them to out the result beyond doubt.

Tim Morgan got his name on the scoresheet in the 79th minute before a double to fan favourite Kado Aoci in the last three minutes adding some gloss to a memorable night for the club.

Lions join Brisbane Strikers and FNQ FC Heat into the last 32.

Meanwhile in Canberra, Gungahlin United have progressed to the ACT final after a comfortable 3-0 victory over Tigers FC on Wednesday night.

Shane Murray scored twice before the midway point of the first half to set up the win before Michael John added a third after the break.

Gungahlin coach Claudio Canosa lauded his side's efforts following the victory.

“I’m happy when my team show discipline and hard work and I think from the beginning we showed that today,” he told Capital Football.

“Eventually when you put in hard work you get something out of it.”

Gungahlin will now take on Belconnen United in the ACT decider, with the winner to claim the nation’s capital’s spot in the Round of 32 in the Westfield FFA Cup.
