Beath assigned to officiate the big one

The six match officials for the Westfield FFA Cup Final 2014 have been announced, with Chris Beath appointed to referee the decider.

Beath will be joined by George Lakrindis and Anton Shchetinin who have been named as the assistant referees and Jonathan Barreiro who will be the fourth official. The roles of additional assistant referees, an experiment used solely throughout the Westfield FFA Cup, will be filled by Kris Griffiths-Jones and Shaun Evans.

Having refereed his first AFC Champions League match earlier this year, Beath is excited about referring the inaugural Westfield FFA Cup Final but at the same time is not getting carried away by the responsibility bestowed to him.

“I think the focus is always on the next game you are assigned to, so we don’t ever think too far ahead to the prospect of getting finals appointments, but in saying that we’re just like players and it’s always a goal to referee at the highest level possible,” Beath said.

“Every appointment is important but of course there is something special about being part of the first Westfield FFA Cup Final and it is very humbling to be able to officiate it.

“It is definitely one of the most special appointments I’ve been given so I’m really looking forward to being a part of what will be a special occasion on Tuesday night.”

FFA Director of Referees, Ben Wilson said the appointments were just reward for the officials who were selected.

“I’d like to congratulate Chris Beath and the other five match officials on their selection for the inaugural Westfield FFA Cup Final,” Wilson said.

“This appointment recognises their consistently strong performances during both the Westfield FFA Cup and the Hyundai A-League this season.

"These referees will go into history as part of what will become an iconic match in Australia’s football calendar.”

The Westfield FFA Cup Final is officially a sell out and will be shown LIVE and exclusive on FOX SPORTS 505 with coverage from 7pm AEDT.
