Football Federation Australia (FFA) has announced the six match officials for the Westfield FFA Cup Final 2015, with Ben Williams set to be the man with the whistle for the big one.
One of FFA’s three appointed full time referees, Williams will take charge of Saturday night’s Cup decider between Melbourne Victory and Perth Glory at AAMI Park.
The assistant referees will be Luke Brennan and Brad Hobson, while Nathan MacDonald will be the fourth official. The two additional assistant referees, which have been used from the Round of 16 onwards during the Westfield FFA Cup, are Jarred Gillett and Adam Fielding.
Williams has officiated at FIFA World Cups, AFC Asian Cups, Olympic Games and an AFC Champions League Final, and admits being given the appointment of the second Westfield FFA Cup Final is one he feels honoured to have the opportunity to do.
“I’ve had a lot of wonderful things happen at the international level so to actually be recognised and do a Final in your own country in a domestic competition is a huge honour,” said Williams.
“With the Westfield FFA Cup being so young having only begun last year, it’s a huge honour to get your name up there as being the referee for the Final.
“I guess we’re the same as the players and the coaches, when it comes around to finals time you want to be there, and referees are no different, so I’m very much looking forward to it and letting Melbourne Victory and Perth Glory put on a show for their fans.”
FFA Director of Referees, Ben Wilson congratulated the six match officials appointed to this match.
“I’d like to congratulate full time referee Ben Williams and the other five match officials on their selection for the Westfield FFA Cup Final,” said Wilson.
“As with players, participating in the Westfield FFA Cup Final is a significant achievement for referees.
“This is a very experienced team and I’m sure they will facilitate an entertaining match.”
