Biggest upsets of the 2017 Westfield FFA Cup

Sydney FC capped a stunning year by claiming the 2017 Westfield FFA Cup title with a nail-biting win over Adelaide United in last week’s final.

The Sky Blues secured a 2-1 win in extra time at Allianz Stadium, with Graham Arnold’s side adding to their Premiership and Championship trophies from their record-breaking Hyundai A-League 2016/17 season.

BLACKTOWN UPSET MARINERS

Joey Gibbs bagged a brace as the home side delighted the crowd at Lily's Stadium with a win over their Hyundai A-League opponents.

The former Sydney FC, Western Sydney and Newcastle Jets attacker scored after just two minutes and added the winner with eight minutes to go.

Kwabena Appiah also netted twice for the visitors, but couldn't prevent the Mariners crashing out at their first Cup hurdle.

KING KENNY STUNS GLORY

Victorian NPL outfit Heidelberg United became the fourth state league side to knock out Hyundai A-League opposition, stunning Perth Glory 1-0 in front of a raucous home crowd at Olympic Park.

Kenny Athiu wrote himself into club folklore, producing an assured finish just after half-time for the game's only goal.

BERRIES’ MEMORABLE WIN

The Bankstown Berries delighted their home faithful with a 2-1 win over MetroStars.

Jake Bradshaw opened the scoring for the NSW second-tier side with Periklis Moustakas adding a second just after the break.

Matthew Dawber's late goal wasn't enough for the visitors, with the Berries holding on for a famous win.

REDS THUMP VICTORY

After a relatively cagey first-half of football, United's intensity lifted following the re-start.

Johan Absalonsen rifled a shot from distance, arrowing into the far post, before George Blackwood doubled the hosts’ lead from the spot.

Nathan Konstandopoulos completed the rampant second-half display courtesy of a stunning curling effort.
