Bonnyrigg White Eagles have thrown the form book out the window, upsetting Manly United 3-0 in the all-PS4 NPL NSW clash in Sydney’s west.

Second half goals to Michael Robinson, youngster Asmir Kadric and Robbie Younis capped a wonderful night for Bonnyrigg to progress to the last 16 at the expense of the side which sits four places above them in the NPL.

Kick-off at Bonnyrigg Sports Centre was delayed by 15 minutes after Manly coach Paul Dee – who also had the side’s playing kit in his car – arrived at the ground late due to traffic congestion.

And it seemed to have an effect on the contest as both sides struggled to fashion meaningful chances in the first 25 minutes.

The big moment of the first half came just shy of the half hour mark when the home side won a penalty.

Aaron Peterson stepped up to take it but was denied by an excellent save by Manly keeper Dylan Mitchell, who got down low to his right to claw the shot around the post.

It was Bonnyrigg then bossed the second half and took the lead when Robinson headed home Ray Miller’s pinpoint free-kick on the hour mark.

Kadric then did it all himself 10 minutes later, showing great strength to bully a couple of Manly defenders in the box before lashing a shot into the bottom corner.

Younis then rounded off the scoring in stoppage time with an excellent finish from the edge of the box to put the icing on the cake on a wet and windy night in Sydney’s ‘burbs.
