Casuarina's classic Cup comeback in Darwin

An incredible second-half comeback has kept Casuarina alive in the Westfield FFA Cup after a thrilling preliminary round win in Northern Territory on Tuesday night.

Casuarina appeared to be heading out of the competition as they trailed Hellenic 2-0 at half-time after two goals from their impressive striker Geoffry Lino.

But in a frantic period after the break, Casuarina turned a two-goal deficit into a 3-2 lead they would never relinquish.

There was nothing to suggest a Casuarina win early on as the brilliant Lion stole the show.

Lino, who has been linked with a trial with Hyundai A-League club Adelaide United, scored a sensational individual goal inside 10 minutes and followed it up with another beauty eight minutes later.

Casuarina missed a couple of good chances to close the gap before half-time but started their fightback six minutes after the break.

An own goal by Hellenic defender Billy Willis halved the deficit and then just five minutes later scores were level when Theo Rossides slotted home from just inside the box.

Then on the hour mark Zelio Casimiro pounced on a Hellenic error to put Casuarina ahead and completed the astonishing comeback.

Casuarina will next play the winner of Port Darwin or Darwin Olympic, who face each other on Wednesday night.

In the other Top End clash on Tuesday, Celtic cruised to a big 4-1 victory over Buckleys.

There was one game in Queensland on Tuesday night with Pine Rivers far too strong for North Pine FC, winning 3-0.

A goal to Tommy Gibbons midway through the first half had them on their way before Nick Waddell doubled the lead six minutes after the break.

Krishneel Roy produced a poacher’s finish 12 minutes from time to complete the rout and have the club just one win away from the Round of 32.

Pine Rivers will play the winner of Lions FC and Peninsula Power in the final qualifying round.

In Canberra, Tigers FC stormed into the last four of their region with a 4-1 drubbing of White Eagles FC at Hawker Football Centre.

Gungahlin United also progressed after a 2-1 win over Canberra Olympic, with Daniel Barac scoring the decisive goal.
