Cup wrap: South Springvale are back, Kings win again!

They were the fairytale story of the inaugural Westfield FFA Cup last year and Victorian giant-killers South Springvale have potentially started another cup run with a preliminary round win over the weekend.

South Springvale, who made the last 16 of the national competition in 2014, needed extra-time to  see off Western Suburbs 3-2 in a thriller at Thomas Street Reserve.

Their win was the standout result of a weekend of matches right around the country that saw upsets and plenty of goals.

Victorian State League 5 outfit Kings Domain FC continued their winning streak, upsetting Cairnlea – who are four divisions above them – 1-0 on Saturday.

Sunsbury United were the most impressive over the weekend, thrashing Whitehorse United 7-1 while Sydenham Park (6-0) and Diamond Valley United (6-1) also had big wins over Old Melbournians and Old Carey respectively.

It took extra-time for Melton Phoenix to beat Keilor Wolves 1-0, Monbulk Rangers were too good for Altona City 4-2 and Preston Lions edged out Knox City 3-2.

Tasmania started their preliminary rounds with New Town Eagles getting the better of Ulverstone 3-2.

Matches are also in full swing in Queensland over the last week with some early round shocks.

A hat-trick to Darren Maxwell has seen Virginia United dispose of Capalaba 4-2, despite playing three divisions below them.

Bayside United and Centenary Stormers also both bagged four goals in 4-1 wins over Westside and Mooroondu respectively.
