Cupets and NPL Queensland victories featured in Round 4 of the FFA Cup for South East Queensland

Round 4 of the FFA Cup for the South East Queensland region concluded last night, with 30 games played to determine which clubs will progress to the fifth round of action.

The introduction of teams from NPL Queensland and FQPL competitions in Round 4 of action was not without challenge, with local teams from across the South East placing their best foot forward, searching to upset some big names.

Peninsula Power continued their green run of form, showing their capabilities in winning across all competitions. A hard-fought affair, Caboolture FC held Peninsula Power scoreless for 72 minutes before the deadlock was broken with Power running away with the game as 3-0 victors.

The trend of NPL clubs continuing to record victories in FFA Cup action did not stop there, with the Brisbane Strikers recording their largest FFA Cup win in club history, with a 10-1 victory over FQPL side Souths United. Andrew Pengelly had the ball on a string, netting six goals and running away with a club record for most goals in a game.

Not to be outdone, Olympic FC recorded the largest win of the round, running away 16-0 victors over Gympie United. Redlands United also recorded a massive victory, with an 8-0 win over AC Carina.

Elsewhere, the magic of the cup was truly alive with ‘cupsets’ as local teams showed that when it comes to the FFA Cup, there is no such thing as an easy match-up.

Playing with 10 men for the last quarter of the game following a send-off and having not recorded an FFA Cup victory prior to this campaign, Logan Metro recorded their second FFA Cup win with a 3-2 victory over Taringa Rovers.

Brisbane competition heavyweights, Capital League 1 side Samford Rangers fell to Capital League 2 side Brisbane Athletic in a highly competitive affair that saw Brisbane Athletic put the game away in the second half, recording a 4-1 victory.

The ‘cupset’ of the round saw Coomera continue to flex their muscle in the FFA Cup and continue the strong showing from coast teams, defeating FQPL side Ipswich Knights 4-2.
