Delighted Glory coach vows to win FFA Cup final

Perth Glory coach Kenny Lowe says his side is motivated to go one better than last year after booking their spot in a second straight Westfield FFA Cup final.

Glory progressed to the decider thanks to a well-deserved 3-1 win over Melbourne City at nib Stadium on Wednesday night.

Having lost to Adelaide 1-0 in last year’s final, Lowe hopes this result will not only lift their Hyundai A-League fortunes but atone for last year and clinch some silverware.

Perth Glory surge into Westfield FFA Cup final

“Delighted. We’re through to the Cup final which everyone wants to be in,” Lowe told Fox Sports.

Glory defender Josh Risdon controls the ball ahead of City midfielder Steve Kuzmanovski.

“It will give everyone a big lift and a boost, especially after what happened last year.

“No matter where we play maybe this year we’ll pinch it.”

Lowe is hopeful Glory will win hosting rights for the decider, joking Glory owner Tony Sage would have been on the phone to the FFA straight after full-time to put their case forward.

The home side booked their berth in the decider with goals to Gyorgy Sandor and an own goal by City’s Ben Garuccio in the first half, before Chris Harold sealed the win 18 minutes from time.

The Perth boss hailed the resolve of his side, backing up just three days after their A-League defeat to Wellington Phoenix at the same venue.

“Diego’s [Castro] got a slight knock on his ankle but he’s played through the game and everyone’s put a shift in,” a proud Lowe said.

“We are thin at the moment but we’re genuine and thin. We’ve got some good guys so let’s see how where we go.”

Asked about the performances of his three imports, who all had a significant impact, Lowe said: “I thought Guyon [Fernandez] was excellent tonight, holding up the ball and bringing people in.

Guyon Fernandez contests the ball with City defender Matt Millar.

“He contributed to the second goal with his endeavour and his work rate. So there’s a lot more to come from him.

“There’s a lot more to come from Castro and a lot more to come from Gyorgy as well. As long as we can keep them on the field we’ll be alright.”

Glory will meet the winner of next Wednesday’s second semi-final between Hume City and Melbourne Victory in next month’s decider.
