Eagles and Knights cause shocks in WA

Four teams remain in Western Australia's Preliminary Rounds after a weekend that saw two former Round of 32 entrants eliminated by lower tier sides dreaming of a Cup fairytale.

Western Knights defeat Perth SC to advance

The Western Knights have upset Perth SC to claim a 3-1 victory in round 6 of the WestfieldFFA Cup at Nash Field on Saturday.

The win over last years’ PS4 NPLWA Premiers means the All Flags State League Division 1 side will be among the final four West Australian teams in the competition.

The home side got off to a dream start with a goal in the 8th minute before Perth responded just before half-time.

Two second half goals proved to be the difference between the Knights and their opponents.

Gulls swoop on Roos to claim 2-0 victory

A goal in each half ensured Sorrento beat Wanneroo City 2-0 to progress to last four in the Westfield FFA Cup Western Australia preliminary rounds.

Alex Morgan scored for the visitors inside four minutes and they never looked back, despite a strong penalty appeal and a disallowed goal for Wanneroo.

Reece Vittiglia’s terrific finish just past the hour mark sealed it for the Gulls, as they aim for a second round of 32 appearance in three years.

Bayswater end Gwelup’s Cup run

Bayswater City have ended the Westfield FFA Cup run of All Flags State League Division Two side Gwelup Croatia with a crushing 6-0 win at Finance 365 Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Jack Allen gave the home side the lead at the break, before second half goals to Jason Mirco, Andrija Jukic, Borbor Sam, David Stokoe and David Heagney put Chris Coyne’s side through to the final four of the WA Preliminary Rounds.

The game ended on a sour note with Sam sent off for a second yellow card after pulling his shirt over his head during a celebration.

Eagles fly high with upset win over Cockburn

Dianella White Eagles striker Angel Andres has scored a hat-trick against his former team Cockburn City to take his side into round 7 of the Westfield FFA Cup.

The All Flags State League Division One side defeated the PS4 NPLWA side at Dalmatinac Park on Saturday 3-0.

Andres left Cockburn during the Summer and said the round 6 match was a great all-round team performance from his Dianella team mates.

“It was a good win for the team, yes I scored the goals, but we made the win together, and who’s next?” the Spanish striker said.

“It’s a great day for the club and we are in a good position on the table, but today we will celebrate and whoever we play next, we are ready for them.”
