Eagles soar into Westfield FFA Cup round of 32

Edgeworth FC have become the first team from Northern NSW to book a spot in the Westfield FFA Cup round of 32, easing to a 3-0 win over Adamstown Rosebuds on Sunday morning.

The Eagles got off to the perfect start at the Lake Macquarie Football Facility, with Brenton Olzomer opening the scoring from close-range after Keanu Moore’s initial attempt rebounded off the post.

Things went from bad to worse for Adamstown with defender Alex Gillespie shown a straight red-card for a last-man challenge on the stroke of half-time.

Rosebuds had a glorious chance to level proceedings at the start of the second stanza with Matt Paul through on goal but the midfielder’s shot was well stopped by Jim Fogarty.

Edgeworth should have doubled their advantage with half an hour remaining through Justin Tannock, with the striker missing an open goal after a pinpoint cross from Moore.

Tannock redeemed himself less than five minutes later, nodding home from close range to make it 2-0.

The Eagles sealed the result with 15 minutes remaining, with Olzomer completing his brace with a neat finish past the helpless Scott Carter following a well-weighted free-kick.
