FFA Cup Match Preview: Adelaide Olympic v Adelaide United

Adelaide Olympic face a massive test this Sunday afternoon when they take on A-League Men side Adelaide United for a spot in the FFA Cup Quarter Finals.

Olympic will welcome United to VALO Football Centre, with kick-off scheduled for 3pm local time (3:30pm AEDT) in the Round of 16 clash. Get tickets here.

It will be the first time in FFA Cup history that Adelaide United face an opponent from South Australia, adding an extra bit of spice to this clash.

How to watch the FFA Cup in 2021

Adelaide was the city in which the first ever FFA 'Cupset' took place, with Adelaide City knocking off Western Sydney Wanderers back in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2014.

And Olympic will be hoping they can pull off some similar magic on Sunday, coming up against the three-time FFA Cup Winners.

But it will be no easy feat. Despite a 3-0 win over ECU Joondalup in the Round of 32, Olympic struggled to break down the Western Australians, and it took until the 70th minute to finally break the deadlock.

In the National Premier Leagues SA this season, Olympic finished seventh on the table, 14 points off top place. It was a tough campaign for Yianni Stamatelopoulos' men, but they'll be looking to make amends in the Cup with a fairytale run.

Meanwhile, Adelaide United needed extra time to see off Floreat Athena in the Round of 32, providing a decent scare for Carl Veart's side.

But they regained control early in the extra 30, scoring a penalty after just two minutes before doubling their lead shortly afterwards, keeping up their winning streak in the Cup.

Adelaide United have not lost a game in the FFA Cup since November 2017 when they were defeated in the Final by Sydney FC.

It's the longest-ever winning streak in the competition, and they'll be looking to keep it going as they search for a fourth FFA Cup title.
