FFA Cup Match Preview: Sydney FC v Brisbane Roar

Sydney FC and Brisbane Roar do battle in FFA Cup Quarter Final action at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium on Wednesday night (6pm AEDT kick-off).

A spot in Semi Finals is on the line for the as the two Isuzu UTE A-League Men's sides battle it out for a spot in the final four.

FFA Cup 2017 Winners Sydney FC secured their spot in the last eight with wins over Sydney Olympic and Macarthur FC.

Despite suffering an early scare and going behind to Olympic, goals from Adam Le Fondre, Patrick Wood, Elvis Kamsoba and Trent Buhagiar saw Sydney fight back to grab a 4-2 Round of 32 win.

While in the Round of 16, goals from James Donachie and Harry Van Der Saag in the second half of extra time secured a hard-fought 2-0 win over Macarthur earlier this month.

Roar qualified for the Quarter Finals for the first time with a pair of wins over NPL Queensland opposition.

Matti Steinmann, Luke Ivanovic and Juan Lescano all scored on debut in a 3-0 Round of 32 win over Peninsula Power, while 19-year-old Cyrus Dehmie starred with a hat-trick in a 4-0 Round of 16 win over Lions FC, which kicked off with a Corey Brown spot-kick.

The two sides have faced off once previously in FFA Cup action with the Roar defeating Sydney 2-0 in the Round of 32 in 2019 thanks to goals from Jay O’Shea and Stefan Mauk.

Sydney head into Wednesday's match having picked up their first win of the 2021/22 Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s season with a 2-1 victory over Wellington Phoenix on Sunday night.

Sunday's win, which included goals from Elvis Kamsoba and Adam Le Fondre, saw the Sky Blues climb to seventh on the league table.

Meanwhile, the Roar languish at the foot of the ladder and are one of only two sides without a win at this early stage of the season.

The Roar, who have just one goal to their name after four games, suffered a 1-0 defeat to Western United in their last outing with their scheduled clash against Perth Glory last weekend postponed as a result of a COVID case in the Glory squad.

Kick-off for Wednesday’s match has been brought forward by 90 minutes to allow Brisbane Roar to fly back to Queensland directly after the game.
