FFA Cup Match Preview: Sydney FC v Macarthur FC

There'll be a strong sense of déjà vu when Sydney FC and Macarthur FC clash in Kogarah on Wednesday night, as the two sides meet for the second time in a matter of weeks.

However this time, a place in the final eight of the FFA Cup is on the line - with a home Quarter Final against Brisbane Roar the reward for coming out on top.

Both clubs have experienced vastly different starts to the A-League Men's season, with the Bulls flying high on top of the table after three rounds, and the Sky Blues second from the bottom with two draws and a defeat to their name.

Lachie Rose is a man in fine form for Ante Milicic's men, with his strike proving the difference in a 1-0 win for the visitors when these two last met at Kogarah two weeks ago.

Will Lachie Rose be the difference again?

He also was at the core of the attack for Macarthur in their Round of 32 encounter - scoring a brace in a 3-0 win over Newcastle Olympic.

While recent form may favour the Bulls, Sydney FC have a strong history in the FFA Cup, and will be hoping to cut short Macarthur's inaugural tilt at the title.

It wasn't the easiest of nights for Steve Corica's squad in the Round of 32, but they managed to get the job done in a 4-2 victory over Sydney Olympic, with Adam Le Fondre, Patrick Wood, Elvis Kamsoba and Trent Buhagiar all finding themselves on the scoresheet.

A sour note to that victory was the loss of midfield lynchpin Luke Brattan to an ACL injury, meaning Wednesday night may provide Steve Corica the opportunity to tinker with his options in the centre of the park, as he looks to spark his side back to winning ways.

Either way, fans can expect a high-quality cup tie, with both teams packed with talent capable of changing a game out of nothing.

Whether Macarthur continue their winning ways or Sydney find themselves back in business, one thing is for sure: come Wednesday night, there will be another club one step closer to the 2021 FFA Cup, and starting to dream that they just might be able to go all the way.
