FFA Cup NNSW: Jaffas, Eagles soar into Round of 32

Edgeworth Eagles and Lambton Jaffas are into the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 after contrasting wins on Sunday afternoon.

In miserable conditions, Lambton earned a hard-fought 3-2 win over Hamilton Olympic at the Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility before Edgeworth thrashed Singleton Strikers 7-0.

In the early game, Lambton fell behind early with Simon Moonie netting in just the 8th minute to give Olympic the advantage.

Hamilton – the Northern NSW PS4 NPL league leaders – continued to dominate proceedings in the opening stanza with Jaffas keeper Brad Swancott forced into a series of saves to keep Lambton in the contest.

The Jaffas turned the tide in the second stanza and found an equaliser just before the hour mark through former Jets midfielder Jobe Wheelhouse.

Joel Wood put Lambton in front with a tidy finish in the 75th minute before Rhys Tippett’s strike 10 minutes later all but sealed the result.

Hamilton pulled a goal back in the 87th minute through Ben Koina but it proved mere consolation as the Jaffas held on for a thrilling victory.

Meanwhile, Edgeworth return to the Round of 32 for a second straight year after dismantling second-tier outfit Singleton in ruthless fashion.

Brody Taylor netted a hat-trick and Keigo Moriyasu a brace as the reigning Northern NSW NPL Champions cruised to a comfortable victory.

The Eagles almost caused a huge upset in the 2015 FFA Cup, grabbing an unlikely lead against Melbourne City before a pair of Aaron Mooy free-kicks rescued the Hyundai A-League outfit.

The draw for the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 will take place on Thursday 30th June at 3pm.
