FFA Cup Preliminary Rounds: weekend wrap

The FFA Cup is livening up across Australia as some clubs take their first steps into this year's Preliminary Rounds while others are continuing their runs.

Here's a snapshot of some of the results from the weekend through to Tuesday night.

NEW SOUTH WALES

A massive round in New South Wales continued over the weekend as some monster scorelines piled up.

Wollongong Olympic and Sydney University both hit double figures in steaming through to the next stage, while Terrigal United, Gladesville Ravens, Hurstville City Minotaurs, Epping Eastwood FC, Budgewoi FC, St Patricks, Glebe Wanderers and Kirrawee Kangaroos all notched at least six.

Western NSW Mariners were one of the numerous clubs that kept their hopes alive, ousting Lindfield FC 3-1 in extra-time.

NORTHERN NEW SOUTH WALES

The big scores continued in the state's north, where Mayfield United crushed Dudley Redhead 12-0 - striker Timothy Senkalski helping himself to five - and North Companions and Barnsley United both romped to 6-1 victories over Narrabri FC and Medowie FC respectively.

There were 12 matches in total played over a busy weekend, with Raymond Terrace rounding out the action on Tuesday night by beating Newcastle United 4-2.

VICTORIA

A lone match on Saturday saw Essendon Royals secure a 3-1 win away to Banyule City courtesy of goals from Albert Zorzanello, Alistair Dunlop and Matt Cunnington.

North Sunshine Eagles will join them in the fifth round after brushing aside Dingley Stars on Tuesday night.

Ryan Dragovic, Jeton Demiri and Deng Aguek did the damage for the hosts.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Four games were contested in the west over the weekend as Bayswater City and Northern City both won 3-0 on the road, beating out Sporting Warriors and Dalyellup Park Rangers respectively.

It was a successful round for away teams in general, with Yanchep United edging Albury Wanderers 2-1 and Bunbury Dynamos proving too good for Wembley Downs in a 4-2 triumph.

QUEENSLAND

One of the craziest games of the weekend saw Townsville Warriors prevail in a 6-5 thriller against Rebels FC.

It was a tighter affair between MA Olympic and Brothers FC, with the former nicking a 2-1 victory.

A similar story in Brisbane saw Caboolture FC overcome Tarragindi Tigers 2-0 on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, in Far North Queensland, Innisfail United claimed a convincing 5-2 victory over Edge Hill United at Steve Corica Oval, while Leichhardt FC ran out 3-0 winners at Stratford Dolphins.

ACT

Capital Football's path to the Final Rounds commenced with ANU FC beating White Eagles 3-0 on Sunday.

Five further matches are still to be held in the opening round, beginning with Brindabella Blues' visit to Gungahlin Juventus on Monday night.
