The big reveal for the Jets is this Tuesday night.
After a month of hard work, the FFA Cup fixture is a first step in the club’s rebirth under new owners (FFA), a new coaching team (Scott Miller and JP de Marigny) and a newish squad undertaking a grand community engagement program whilst learning a new system and culture under a new, and first-time senior, A-League coach.
It’s an exciting time to be a Jets supporter.
After a chaotic few years and chronic lack of success, this new era kicks off at Magic Park and the home side will be desperate to show their intent.
How they line-up, approach and play this match will be a fascinating sub-text to this FFA Cup clash as few (apart from a few hundred fans in Armidale who watched an intra-club match last week, won by Jets ‘A’ 1-0) really knows what to expect.
For their opponents, they too are building after the debacle of last season’s salary cap scandal, one which saw them ousted from Finals Football.
However Glory did reach the final of last season’s FFA Cup, losing to the Reds in Adelaide, so there is unfinished business for Kenny Lowe and Co in 2015.
New faces for Perth include defenders Antony Golec and Marc Warren, keeper Ante Covic (a Championship winner with the Jets in 2008 and a current ACL champion) and midfielder Hagi Gligor - a fresh coat of paint with a decidedly NSW hue; however newly signed Spanish marquee striker Diego Castro won’t arrive in time for the trip up the F3.
A low-key build means both sides will be somewhat of a mystery to each other.
But after their respective recent histories both will be absolutely desperate to kick off the season with a win to make an early statement in the FFA Cup Round of 32.
