BLUFFER’S GUIDE

Glory just loves this competition. Wily coach Kenny Lowe knows how to get his players in the right frame of mind for Cup football and they sit just 90 minutes away from another semi-final berth. And in a rarity, they're playing at home.

While most of the FFA Cup focus has been coming out of Victoria – and rightly so with five clubs in the last eight – Glory have been quietly going about their business.

Lowe has plenty of new faces in his squad for this season but resilience and character hasn’t been sacrificed.

Goalkeeper Jerrad Tyson was the hero as Perth Glory downed the Jets in a shootout.

They’ve had to come through a nervy penalty-shootout against Newcastle Jets in the first round before playing almost the entire match with 10-men to scrape past Lions FC. Lowe feels the type of wins typify his side’s spirit. And they’ll need that and a bit more against the Wanderers.

Like Glory, the red and black have gone through a major overhaul in the off-season with a number of new boys still bedding in to Tony Popovic’s system.

The Wanderers’ imports looked to have settled into life at Western Sydney seamlessly and the club is embracing their run through the competition this season.

More importantly, they look a fresh out, full of vim, vigour and motivation and with a lot more threat in the side, especially coming out of midfield.

It’s almost impossible to separate these sides and it would come as no surprise if this clash went beyond the 90 minutes at what will be a bumper crowd at Dorrien Gardens.

WHAT THEY SAY

Ante Covic (Perth Glory keeper)

“It probably is a dream first up match for me, it’ll be great to go up against the Wanderers and get one up on them. It’s an important game, it’s a quarter-final and we want to progress.”

Brendon Santalab (Western Sydney Wanderers FC)

“We've got a lot of Spanish players this season and everyone will see what the boys bring to our squad. I think they will help us in a big way this season. We've got a lot of attacking-minded players, so I think going forward we will be very dangerous.”

Wanderers' Dimas Delgado celebrates opening the scoring against Palm Beach Sharks on the Gold Coast.
