Football NSW Round 4 Preview

The exciting Westfield FFA Cup journey continues this coming week as Round 4 pits together some very interesting Cup ties across NSW.

Thirty nine mouth-watering games includes clubs from all tiers of competitive football, and with the introduction in to this round of the PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues 1 NSW Men’s sides, there will be quite a few ‘Davids’ looking to bring down ‘Goliaths’.

Blacktown Spartans have a tricky 4th Round tie, needing to travel to the Illawarra to take on the Albion Park White Eagles, from the Illawarra Premier League. The White Eagles have been a consistent performer in the local league in recent seasons, and will welcome the test of playing an NPL 1 side who will have to be at their best to avoid a surprise defeat.

Manly Vale FC, who have been in existence for well over 50 years and play in the Manly Warringah Football Association, have drawn the might of the Bankstown City Lions at Sydney United Sports Centre on Tuesday, April 5 at 7-30pm.

Leo Carle’s Lions have had a blistering start to their season, sitting on top of the PlayStation 4 NPL NSW Men’s 2 competition, and they’ll be looking to bring their league form in to the Cup and dispense of their 4thround opponents with a minimum of fuss.

Another intriguing clash looms at Ilinden  Sports Centre on Wednesday, April 6, kicking off at 7-30pm, as Rockdale Ilinden welcome the visit of Macarthur Rams.

The Rams are coached by none other than Lee Sterrey, one of the most astute coaches in NSW, and a man who previously coached at Ilinden. The Rams will have their work cut out in trying to stem the Rockdale tide that sees them sitting second in the PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues 1 NSW Men’s competition, with youngsters, Alec Urosevski and Touffic Alemaddine, two of the threats Macarthur will have to keep a close eye on.

In the solitary PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues 1 NSW Men’s clash, Sutherland Sharks take onSydney United 58 FC at Seymour Shaw on Wednesday, April 6 at 7-00pm.

Retribution will be on the minds of the Sharks contingent given their recent 0-4 hiding at the hands of Sydney United last Easter Monday, where Chris Payne (2), Panagiotis Nikas and Nikola Taneski got the goals.

For Nikas, and indeed Nick Stavroulakis, it will be a homecoming of sorts to the club and venue where they enjoyed so much success over the years.

Another interesting match will take place at Lambert Park, where APIA Leichhardt Tigers entertain PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues 3 NSW Men’s high flyers, Rydalmere Lions.

With ex-NPL1 players Zac Elrich and Shane Webb in their ranks, Tony Basha’s Lions will welcome the challenge against a higher placed opponent, but Franco Parisi and co will be ever alert to avoid falling on this banana skin.

Branko Culina will be utilising all of his wealth of experience as he looks to steer his Fraser Park side past the might of Bonnyrigg White Eagles on Wednesday night.

Culina has been there and done that, but has in all fairness only recently taken over the reins at Fraser. But he does have a spirited squad, including long standing ex-Rockdale captain, Ashkin Oygur, and they will be out to impress their new coach with nothing to lose against Brian Brown’s men.

The White Eagles have not fared too well in the Westfield FFA Cup over recent seasons, but have made it an objective of theirs to make that record right. With Robbie Younis and Aaron Pederson leading the attack, Fraser Park – you have been warned.

Other interesting matches in Round 4 include Mt Druitt Rangers SC meeting Northern TigersSydney University doing battle with newly formed, St George FAHakoah Sydney City East locking horns withGranville Rage,  the all Wollongong affair between Wollongong United FC and Cringila Lions FC,West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook welcoming the might of Grant Lee’s Sydney Olympic to the newly laid turf at Pennant Hills Oval,Paul Dee’s Manly United taking on Gladesville Ravens, and Prospect Unitedhosting Marconi at William Lawson Park.
