Glenorchy sign Allsopp for Round of 32 decider

Glenorchy Knights have pulled off a major signing on the eve of the Lakoseljac Cup Fnal against the Olympia Warriors, bringing in former Socceroo and Melbourne Victory striker Danny Allsopp for the decider.

With regular starting striker Matthew Nowicki suspended for the occasion after his red card against Beachside in last weekends Southern Championship game, the 38 year old will help fill the void .

The club issued the following statement announcing the signing.

“Glenorchy Knights is pleased to announce we have secured former Socceroo and Melbourne Victory striker Daniel Allsopp to bolster our squad for Monday’s Lakoseljac Cup Final.

To ensure our coaching staff have full options available for the game, we have recruited Daniel Allsopp following the suspension of our striker Mathew Nowicki in a Championship game last weekend. He will also be included in the squad for games in the Westfield FFA Cup if we are fortunate to qualify.

Today the Knights had an excellent training session with Danny and he has fitted in perfectly. The team is feeling very positive and looking forward to the Final on Monday.”

Allsopp took part in the side’s Saturday training session and looked sharp on the ball, playing the target man role that Matthew Nowicki would usually fill alongside Ethan Engels. The former Socceroo said he was impressed with the standard of the squad throughout the session.

“The training session went really well, we played some really good football out there. It’s good to get out there and have a bit of a run around. I enjoyed it.

“The level exceeded my expectations, we played some good stuff, we’ve got some boys who can clearly play, and it should be a good game come Monday.”
