Glory coach praises his new FFA Cup stars

Happy Perth Glory coach Kenny Lowe hailed his new players in a remodeled Glory squad after an exhilarating penalty shoot out win against Newcastle Jets in the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 on Tuesday night.

After scores were locked at 1-1 after 90 minutes and 2-2 at the end of extra-time, new recruit Gyorgy Sandor converted the decisive penalty to hand Glory a 4-3 win in the shootout.

Three missed spot kicks in the shootout proved costly for the hosts as the Glory advance to the Round of 16.

FFA Cup wrap: Wanderers progress on dramatic Cup night

The Hungarian star and other new Glory faces come in for high praise from the Perth boss after the game.

Perth players celebrate after winning the penalty shootout 4-3 over Newcastle Jets.

“First half they [Jets] were the better side. But in the second half we changed the shape a little bit and we were in the game,” Lowe told Fox Sports.

“We’ve got Jakey Collard, young Steph Valentini who came on and got us the penalty and Hagi Gligor came on and did really, really well so really happy for the kids.

“And Gyorgy the Hungarian boy I thought was magnificent.”

Lowe added the FFA Cup was especially important for his club. And he's hoping that in Wednesday's draw they finally get a home game after numerous trips to the eastern seaboard in last season's FFA Cup.

“It’s massive for us because it sets us up for the season. We find it difficult to get pre-season games over West. So if we can hang in there with the Cup and get a couple of A-League teams you get a good pre-season.

“So that’s the focus for us, to hang in there for as long as we can.”
