Perth Glory’s new goalkeeper Ante Covic has described the Westfield FFA Cup quarter-final against his former club as a “dream match”.
Glory, who were last year’s Cup finalists, will host Asian Champions League winners, Western Sydney Wanderers, at Dorrien Gardens (home of Perth SC) next Tuesday night.
Covic made no secret of the fire burning inside him, ahead of the exciting clash.
“It probably is a dream first up match for me, it’ll be great to get up against the Wanderers and get one up on them” he said.
“It’s an important game, it’s a quarter-final and we want to progress”.
Covic is expected to make his debut for Glory in the state coloured themed kit, after fellow goalkeeper Jerrad Tyson was sent off, in the Round of 16 clash, against Lions FC.
“I expect to start, I prepare for every game like every other session, and it’s unlucky for Jerrad he got suspended but yeah beating the Wanderers is a little added spice for me”.
The veteran goalkeeper, who scooped an Asian Champions League winner’s medal with the Wanderers, was voted MVP of the tournament.
He said moving to Perth at the age of 40 wasn’t a barrier and felt better than ever.
“I feel like a 20 year old kid given his first chance and that’s what makes me tick. The feeling of winning never gets tiring and I’d like to do that with Perth Glory".
Kick-off to the FFA Cup quarter final clash between Glory and the Wanderers is at 6.30pm at Dorrien Gardens.
