Heidelberg ecstatic after FFA Cup win

Heidelberg United coach George Katsakis was “ecstatic” with his side’s dominant 3-1 win over Broadmeadow Magic in the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 clash in Newcastle on Wednesday night.

The Victorian club  smashed three unanswered goals in the opening 45 minutes to effectively end the game at Magic Park.

The home side got one back in the second half but the ‘Bergers were simply too good for the Northern NSW club who can now dream of perhaps a Hyundai A-League club in the FFA Cup Round of 16.

“We’re ecstatic. It’s been a long journey for us. But in the last few years we’ve rejuvenated the club.

“I thought our first half was amazing,” said Katsakis after the game.

“Sometimes psychologically you take your foot off the pedal and I think that’s what happened [in the second half]. But credit must go to Broadmeadow Magic.

“But our boys fought hard and to play 180 minutes over three days is a credit," he said of his side who played a PS4 NPL Victoria league game on the weekend.

Heidelberg now move into the Round of 16 to be played in late August and early September.

“Maybe we’ll get a Victory or City at home next time,” he added with a smile.
