Hume City prevail in nine-goal FFA Cup comeback thriller

It was a case of never giving up from Hume City, as they advanced to the next round of the FFA Cup following a sensational 5-4 win over fellow NPL side Heidelberg United on Tuesday.

Hume trailed for most of the game, with Heidelberg taking the lead in the contest on four occasions.

But Hume never gave up, pulling back on level terms each time, before taking the game to extra time and scoring the winning goal in the 109th minute through Theo Markelis.

Tom Cahill opened the scoring in the match for Heidelberg in the 15th minute, but Marko Delic equalised just a minute later, and that would prove to be the story of the game.

A few minutes later, Heidelberg re-took the lead, only for their lead to last as long as they held it.

Cahill grabbed a second just three minutes into the second half, before Hume made it 3-3 in the final stages of the match through Stevie Hewitt.

Lucas Derrick then put Heidelberg ahead early into extra time, but once again Hume managed to draw level, with Gidi Sweet finding the back of the net just two minutes later.

This time, however, Heidelberg were never able to take back the lead, with Markelis netting the winner with 11 minutes remaining in extra time.

It was a pulsating 120 minutes between the two heavyweights, with Hume shaping up as a favourite to advance to the Round of 32 stage once again.
