Wayne Brown made his debut for Fulham in England’s FA Cup, now Newcastle Jets’ latest signing is set to make his Australian debut in the Westfield FFA Cup.
Brown, 27, was on hand at Fox Studios on Thursday to witness the FFA Cup Round of 32 draw.
And his new A-League club has been handed a relatively tough draw against the reigning FFA Cup champions Victory.
“Very excited. We got a home tie which is always a plus in the FFA Cup no matter which round," Brown told www.theffacup.com.au
“I believe they [Victory] are the current champions of the FFA Cup so it’ll be a real tough test for us.
“We’ll have to prepare for it on the training field but really looking forward to it. It’ll be my first competitive game in the Jets shirt, so I’m excited.”
Brown, who’s been in Newcastle for two weeks with his young family, has settled well and is looking forward to easing his way into the A-League with some FFA Cup action over the coming weeks.
“The FA Cup has always been a great memory for me.
“I made my debut for Fulham against Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup,” said Brown, who spent three years at the club from 2007 but was also loaned out to Brentford and Rovers during that spell.
“The FA Cup is very historical in England but really looking forward to the FFA Cup.”
Brown moved to Finland where he was player of the year in the Finnish Premier League in 2009 while on loan from the Cottage. He later made that move to Finland permanent before his move to the Hunter club.
He added: “This draw is something new for me. It’s the first time I’ve been at a live draw and see it happen.
“But a great experience and I got to meet a few other coaches and players today.”
The Jets returned to pre-season training earlier this week.
“I’ve met all the boys this week. Got a good unit and togetherness and we’ve had a tough week of training but we’re getting stuck into it straight away.
“We’ll use the next couple of weeks to get fitter and stronger and prepare for the game," said Brown.
Brown knows his new coach Scott Miller from their days at Craven Cottage too which has helped him settle into his new environment.
“He hasn’t changed. He’s very professional and works hard. That’s the sort of manager I’m looking forward to working with," added Brown.
