Knights kiss FFA Cup hello

The final makeup of the 32 clubs for the Westfield FFA Cup Draw has been confirmed after Melbourne Knights secured the final spot thanks to a 2-0 win over South Melbourne.

Melbourne Knights secured the last remaining spot in the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 and a place in the Dockerty Cup semi-finals with a 2-0 win over South Melbourne in a tense contest at Lakeside Stadium on Wednesday night.

Goals to Tomislav Uskok and Shayan Alinejad saw the Knights prevail in convincing fashion.

Their previous encounter in Round 6 of the National Premier Leagues was a tight affair with only a goal deciding the winner, and it was again a back-and-forth start to the match, with Milos Lujic putting an early volley over before the Knights’ new signing Stipo Andrijasevic inexplicably missed with an open goal begging.

Despite South clicking into gear in the final minutes of the match, which saw them have appeals for a late penalty waved away, the Knights hung on to claim a semi-final berth, and qualification for the Westfield FFA Cup alongside fellow Football Federation Victoria clubs Bentleigh Greens, St Albans Saints and South Springvale.

Melbourne Knights coach Andrew Marth was full of praise for new signing Andrijasevic and his returning players.
