Major contenders do it easy in Tassie

It was a massive Easter Monday of Westfield FFA Cup action in the Apple Isle. Get the lowdown on all of the matches here.

It was a Lakoseljac Cup slate that pitted the PS4 NPL sides against the Championship sides and whilst some score lines reflected that, there were enough closely fought games, a major upset and a couple of superb individual efforts that helped make for an entertaining Easter Monday of Cup football.

The upset of the day occured at the NTCA ground with Nelson Eastern Suburbs going on the road and rolling PS4 NPL side Northern Rangers. A Colin Jackson strike shortly after half time was enough to guide to underdog Southern Championship side to a 1-0 victory and an extraordinary cup upset.

After taking the lead early in the second half they grimly held on and defended stoutly to produce a win that is proof of just how far they have come as a club. After finishing in last place with a -57 goal difference last season, Nelon have turned things around spectacularly and now have a Lakoseljac Cup quarter final to look forward to.

Rangers cross town rivals Launceston City almost met the same fate as they trailed 2-1 heading into the final minutes of their tie at Olinda Grove before Mackenzie Hancox pulled his side out of the fire with a last gasp equaliser. Noah Mies then stepped up and hit the match winner early in the first half of added time as City edged a thrilling contest 3-2.

There were no such issues for their neighbours Olympia who comfortably accounted for Ulverstone up in the North West of the state. Shane Cartwright smashed in four first half goals as the Warriors breezed to a comfortable 7-0 victory.
