Mark Viduka Medal winner targeted Westfield FFA Cup triumph

Mark Viduka Medallist Adrian Mierzejewski had full confidence Sydney FC would win the Westfield FFA Cup Final and says he's far from satisfied with a single trophy.

Mierzejewski was named best afield for his excellent display in the 2-1 extra-time defeat of Adelaide United, taking over the creative responsibility after Milos Ninkovic was forced off on the hour.

The 40-time Poland international had earmarked Tuesday night's decider as his first chance to contribute to the stunning success which began with last season's Hyundai A-League double.

"That's why I came here. I knew everything about the club," Mierzejewski told Fox Sports.

"I came here to win those trophies again as well as the Champions League and the FFA Cup.

"First title, ticked the box."

Mierzejewski completed a full two hours of action at Allianz Stadium despite having only managed 25 minutes throughout the rest of November.

The former Trabzonspor man revealed the plan had always been to preserve him for when it mattered most.

"It was not easy. I really have to thank the medical staff and the coach," he said.

"When I got injured last month we had only one goal: to prepare me for this game.

"That's why I didn't play [for three weeks] before the last game. It worked."

Mierzejewski joins Sergio Cirio, Kosta Barbarouses and Bruno Fornaroli as the only other winners of the Mark Viduka Medal.
