Northern Territory set for historic cup final

History will be made in Darwin on Saturday night as the inaugural Westfield FFA Cup entrant from the Northern Territory will be decided.

Free-scoring Darwin Olympic battle it out against Alice Springs outfit Celtic FC in what should be a thrilling final at the Darwin Football Stadium.

What a moment it will be for one of these clubs to go into July 1’s draw for the round of 32 – and a possible match-up against a Hyundai A-League club.

Both sides have had exceptional runs to the decider, underlining their quality with crushing wins in their respective semi-finals.

Olympic disposed of cross-town rivals Casuarina FC 7-2 last Tuesday after a devastating first 25 minutes.

While they lost star striker Peter Roditis to a broken leg, they slammed home four quick goals after Casuarina had a player sent off early on.

Celtic FC were just as impressive in their semi, defeating Scorpions FC 5-0 last Thursday.

More than 640 clubs started the journey in the Westfield FFA Cup preliminary rounds and now one of these sides is just 90 minutes away from joining the lucky 32 in the competition proper.

It promises to be a ripping encounter on what will be a memorable night for football in the Top End.
