NSW clubs eye ticket to FFA Cup Round of 32

History could be made in the FFA Cup on Wednesday night with a team from the South Coast of NSW aiming to become the first association club to qualify for the Round of 32.

In what will be a huge occasion at Hooka Creek Park, giant-killers Tarrawanna Blueys will find themselves thrust onto the national stage if they can beat NPL outfit Hakoah Sydney City East.

The Blueys have been the fairytale story of the preliminary rounds in NSW, defeating Sydney North West FC, Macarthur Rams, UNSW and the Kirrawee Kangaroos to get to this stage.

But they’ll need to produce one more massive performance to get past Gavin Rae’s Hakoah, who reached the last 16 of the tournament in 2017.

The Tarrawanna v Hakoah clash in one of five big games in NSW on Wednesday night which will decide the state’s representatives in the Round of 32.

Elsewhere, it’s the NPL’s top-two doing battle at Belmore Sports Ground as league-leaders Sydney Olympic host APIA Leichhardt.

Both sides suffered shock defeats in the NPL over the weekend and will be keen to bounce back to advance to the Round of 32.

There is another all-NPL affair at Illinden Sports Centre as Rockdale City Suns host FFA Cup specialists Blacktown City.

The Demons have made the Round of 32 every year of the competition and defeated Hyundai A-League outfit Central Coast Mariners last year.

The other games see Bonnyrigg White Eagles travel to NPL2 side Hills United, while Marconi Stallions will be at home against NPL2 opposition in GHFA Spirit.

All matches kick off at 7.30pm.
