Peter Green will referee the Westfield FFA Cup Final 2016 as Football Federation Australia (FFA) today announced the six match officials for the Cup decider.
Green will take charge of Wednesday night’s Westfield FFA Cup Final between Melbourne City FC and Sydney FC at AAMI Park.
The assistant referees will be Paul Cetrangolo and Nathan MacDonald, while Luke Brennan will be the fourth official.
Two Additional Assistant Referees will also be used, with Alan Milliner and Rebecca Durcau filling those positions.
Green’s appointment adds to the list of highlights of his refereeing career, which includes being named Hyundai A-League Referee of the Year in 2012/13 and 2013/14, officiating the Hyundai A-League Grand Finals in 2013 and 2104 and taking charge of the AFC Champions League 2016 Semi Final between Al-Ain and El Jaish.
Green, who has been a FIFA referee since 2006, is also the most capped Hyundai A-League referee of all time having officiated over 160 matches.
“It's a huge honour to be appointed to the Westfield FFA Cup Final as it's one of the biggest and most prestigious matches of the year,” said Green.
“Preparing for this match will be the same as any match. Every match regardless of whether it is in the FFA Cup or the A-League is important, and our preparation as match officials has to be of a high level to ensure we can facilitate an entertaining contest.”
FFA Director of Referees, Ben Wilson congratulated the six match officials appointed to the third edition of the Westfield FFA Cup showpiece event.
“I’d like to congratulate Peter Green and the other match officials on their selection for this year’s Westfield FFA Cup Final,” said Wilson.
“As with players, participating in any Final is a significant achievement for referees and I’m sure it will be an occasion they will savour.
“This is an elite team of officials and I’m sure they will facilitate an excellent match.”
