Ponds FC to host Marconi in FFA Cup's David & Goliath battle

Blacktown & District Football Association side Ponds FC will take on iconic Australian National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s outfit Marconi Stallions in round 5 of the FFA Cup at Jonas Bradley Reserve (7:30pm) in what will be the biggest game in the club’s six-year history.

The Stallions will be swapping the ‘Palace’ at Marconi Stadium for the sights and sounds of the Ponds in Sydney’s West as they prepare to take on the fearless Ponds FC outfit fresh from its 3-2 round 4 FFA Cup victory against NPL 3 NSW Men’s side Camden Tigers.

Benjamin Moncrieff, Taylar Hunter, Jackson Fanning, Adrian Talevski, Scott Jackson, Jeremy Kelly and the Galayini duo of Roger and Charles along with Matt Hubbard are just some of the names Ponds FC fans hope will take up the charge as they face their highly fancied opponents.

With the likes of former A-League players Mitchell Mallia, Mirjian Pavlovic and Marko Jesic set to hit the turf at the Ponds, Stallions coach Peter Tsekenis will not want to miss a beat as his side set its sights in making the final five allocated spots for NSW at this year’s round of 32 of the FFA Cup.

A massive crowd will be on hand at Jonas Bradley Reserve however, and standing in the Stallions way will be a vocal and parochial support by the local Ponds community and its football club as its senior squad hope to do the unthinkable, the unimaginable, that’s defeat the Marconi Stallions.

It won’t be the only David & Goliath battle in round 5 as a local South Coast derby as such will feature local Illawarra side Coledale Waves take on yet another NPL NSW Men’s heavyweight side in the Wollongong Wolves while another former NSL giant Sydney United 58 will face the challenge of South Coast outfit Woonona Sharks.
