Re-live the Magic of the Cup: Bentleigh win shootout thriller

It was always going to be tight when these two powerful PS4 NPL Victorian clubs in the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32.

And that’s exactly what transpired in an absorbing clash that took a penalty shootout to decide the winner.

While Hume dominated the early stages of the game, they fell behind inside 10 minutes.

City goalkeeper Michael Weir’s attempt to clear a ball inside his area went horribly wrong, allowing Bentleigh’s Tyson Holmes to charge down the ball and score.

It was a lead the Greens held for more than 50 minutes before the home side responded.

Jayden Prasad capitalised on some poor Bentleigh defending, receiving the ball from Liam Boland and curling his effort into the bottom corner.

It was game on and in gale-force winds the content continued to swing in momentum as no further goals were scored in normal time or extra-time.

It came down to penalties and it was the Greens who would prevail, converting all four of their attempts, while Hume’s Attila Ofli fired over and Prasad had his shot saved by Ryan Scott.

Huge celebrations followed for the Bentleigh players as they sealed their spot in the last 16 and a match-up with Western Sydney Wanderers.
