Western Sydney Wanderers survived a huge scare before downing Blacktown City in a penalty shootout in the FFA Cup Quarter Finals.

Re-live the Magic of the Cup: Wanderers survive Blacktown scare

In a pulsating all-Western Sydney last-eight clash, the Hyundai A-League side needed a penalty shoot-out to eventually succumb a spirited Blacktown City at Lily's Football Stadium.

Wanderers started strongly and took an early lead with Spanish striker Oriol Riera scoring for a third straight game via the penalty spot after just three minutes.

Despite dominating the first half, Western Sydney were unable to increase their lead and Blacktown substitute James Andrew squared the ledger with a well-taken strike in the second half, sending the contest to extra time.

Andrew was again to the fore just before half-time in extra-time, giving Blacktown the lead and boosting hopes of a first semi-final appearance.

But Riera dashed those dreams, equalising with less than 10 minutes left to send the contest to penalties.

Western Sydney's composure from the penalty spot proved decisive with Mark Bridge, Lachlan Scott, Steve Lustica and Riera all converting to book their side's spot in the final four.

Blacktown City had been beaten but not bowed in front of over 4000 home fans.
