Reds midfielder vows to shoot more after Westfield FFA Cup howitzer

Adelaide United hero Daniel Adlung has played down his incredible goal which booked the Reds a spot in next month’s Westfield FFA Cup final against Sydney FC.

The German midfielder produced a long-range rocket to help the Reds sink Western Sydney Wanderers 2-1 at Campbelltown Stadium in Tuesday night’s semi-final.

Adlung has been an imposing presence in Adelaide’s midfield so far this season and is known more for his ferocious tackling and crisp than his goal-scoring exploits.

“Sometimes I get a good hit,” the midfielder told Fox Sports after the game.

“The touch from my foot felt good, but it went with a little bit of swerve, but I thought it was going in.

“It was a good goal I think and maybe I have to shoot more often so I can score more goals.”

Tuesday night’s win was a strong all-round performance from Adelaide United, who prevented the Wanderers setting up a first-ever Sydney Derby final in the Westfield FFA Cup.

Now the Reds have the chance to become the first side to win the competitions twice, having beaten Perth Glory 1-0 in the inaugural Westfield FFA Cup final in 2014.

For now, Adlung is just relieved to have seen off a strong Wanderers outfit in what was a fiery 90 minutes in Sydney’s west.

“Western Sydney played a very good game. They have very good offensive players but I think we had a good plan for this game,” Adlung said.

“From the first minute until the end we played [to] our plan.

“We deserved the victory I think.”

The Westfield FFA Cup final will be played on Tuesday, November 21, with full venue and ticket details set to be announced later on Wednesday.
