Rhodes' ripper in WA FFA Cup thriller!

A spectacular 40-metre chip from hat-trick hero Jordan Rhodes sealed an epic Westfield FFA Cup win for Mandurah City in a 10-goal thriller with Joondalup City on Monday night.

Eight preliminary round matches were played in WA but the pick came at Hyundai Stadium with goals galore in a cracking Cup tie.

Mandurah got through to WA’s last round but they did it the hard way as they trailed 3-2 at the break.

Rhodes started the fight-back from the spot and then Abi Tcuono gave them the lead 4-3 before Joondalup levelled things up again.

Enter the mercurial Rhodes.

He scored a second from the penalty spot before his audacious long lob in the last five minutes sealed a memorable win.

In other results on a jam-packed evening of games, the Chris Coyne-coached Bayswater City had little trouble getting past Inglewood United 2-0.

A Carlo Coelho brace was enough for Perth SC to beat Fremantle City 2-0, while Subiaco AFC won by the same score away to Balcatta.

Ex-Perth Glory midfielder Steven McGarry was on the scoresheet in Gwelup Croatia’s 2-1 triumph over BB United and Cockburn City were too good for Ashfield SC 3-0.

There were big wins for both Sorrento FC and South West Phoenix, who crushed Stirling Lions (5-1) and Armadale SC (4-1) respectively.

A host of matches will be played around the country on Tuesday, including the big derby in Queensland between Brisbane Strikers and Brisbane City.

Hurstville Minotaurs v North Shore Mariners, Hawkesbury City v Western NSW Mariners and Casuarina FC v Mindil Aces are other games that catch the eye.
